I've had my 5th gen. iPod video for about five years now, and it's treated me well; until last night. I was lying in bed listening to music, and I wanted to skip the song, so I pushed the forward button. Nothing happens. I try it again; the iPod freezes for about 20 seconds, then totally powers down, and makes a clicking noise (sounds like a drive maybe?).
Now, every time I turn the iPod on, I get the Apple logo, and it immediately goes to the "Connect to your computer, use iTunes to restore" screen, and after about 10 seconds, it powers off, again making the same whine/click noise. It's in a loop with this.
If I plug it into my computer, it doesn't read whatsoever; nothing on my desktop, nothing in iTunes, but the iPod itself goes to disk mode with a white screen and a "do not disconnect" sign. I cannot seem to get it out of disk mode, let alone get my computer to recognize it, so I can't restore it. I have a Macbook, and I've tried to restore it using other computers (several Windows systems) and it recognizes a "USB mass storage device", but doesn't appear in iTunes or anywhere else.
I've tried doing the manual reset, tried diagnostics mode, and to no avail. It's stuck in disk mode in a perpetual loop every time I turn it on, and NO computers will recognize it.
I have a really old 3GB iPod mini that I got years ago, so that's been my replacement for the past 24 hours— problem is, 3GB hardly compares to the 30GB that was on my iPod video; I can't even fit a quarter of my library on it. I'm kind of upset about it, I mean, I know that 5 years is quite awhile, but I've taken extremely good care of the device. It's been in a protective case ever since I got it, and I rarely drop it. educating people as an industry? Who does jobs think he is? Most of the population may be below average to his economical standards... but what the f was that? People know more than he thinks... It is simple for Apple to track anyone on a cellular network and using an iPhone... but it isn't worth the legal risk is it, if the person's' being tracked isn't worth it... but if Apple or anyone really wanted to... there is nothing to stop it with the infrastructure of iOS and cellular networks today...

It's been pretty good. As far as I know, only redsn0w will work at the moment. The process was rather simple and quick. Not sure if you have to upgrade to 4.3.1, but I recommend you do anyway since it gets rid of the screen glitches that are found on 4.3.

We get a full year of support on hardware and software, and have Applecare for beyond year 1. So limited OS support is FUD.
I don't think it is FUD. For example, Microsoft's last support for WinXP Pro ends in April of 2014 � that is over 12 years of support from the vendor.

There are really none of either game on the service. So far I find it works pretty well for the action/sports/racing games they have, but the cost is more of an issue ... and if I was going to hook something to my TV why not get a REAL console? OnLive has ~40 games right now.

Yeah, I dont have component or an HD TV at the moment, I have a better box for wireless than any airportex, and I'd rather have a cheap phone that wont be janked than such a flash phone with only 8gb ipod ability.
I want my widescreen 80gb iPod please.

i'm looking for a cases for my :apple: iTouch 1G. but can't seen to find any good ones. i'm looking for a simple case like see-thru silicone case or hard case that is simple but good and with accesories.

It was a shame there was no leopard / iLife stuff, and on the one hand it was kinda sad to see the name change.
But on the other isn't this just an example of Apple being innovative, changing with the times, and keeping ahead of the game - skating to where the puck's going, and all that?
Not being innovative, changing with the times, and keeping ahead of the game are all things that I thought people like accusing MS of being? So here are Apple being all those things, and still people aren't happy.
My money's on iLife 07 having a bit of a revamp and greater integration with Leopard. I know some of the Apple consistency in design has been a bit AWOL recently, but I wonder if they've been trying things out, and perhaps with leopard / iLife 07 everything will come together again. My oersonal pref for a UI would be something not dissimilar to Aperture - more pro looking than iLife, but a bit more attractive and inviting than final cut etc.
I also think the macs themselves are all pretty much up to date - so we'll likely see a good spread of stuff through the year - iPhone now, leopard/iLife very soon, and mac revisions appearing very soon after that.

Lotus Notes is such a horrible product for an email client. Notes existed long before they added email capabilities, and then they retrofitted email into the product.
I like to use an email product where I can get access to all my email accounts (both personal and work related). Luckily in Notes you can have it forward your email to another email client. So I read my Notes mail in Apple's Mail client.
I'm not bitter :)
