Why does it have to go inbetween the iMac and something? How about giving customers a CHOICE at the same pricepoint as the iMac. Lose the integrated LCD for those who have one, bump up the specs a bit and sell at the same price points... See my post above for what I would like to see....
Exactly why it wouldnt happen, cause Apple doesn't want to give people choice at one price point. Its either desktop or portable.... pick ur price... and low beho thats the mac for you. Period. No disputing the great Oracles at Cupertino.

:( iTunes crashed as soon as it turned off my iPhone. Thank Darwin for TinyUmbrella.

Uh oh, now you're going to unleash the fury of the autism brigade. Asperger's isn't a personality disorder!

It is a psychological condition/disorder, correct?

Edit: others beat me too it. I'm on a friend' iTouch.

But these new machines just make the hole in Apple's product line that much more obvious. No headless machine between $799 and about $2199? No machine between yonah dual 1.6 and xeon quad 2.0? No machine with swappable video card for under two grand??? You'll be able to get a smoking dual core conroe PC for probably half that.

I just hope this isn't the last of the line (hopefully apple is just saying that to brag on the transition speed) and there's a cheap midrange tower running conroe on the way.

Well, with the downgraded specs (Quad 2.0 GHz and 160 GB hard drive) and educational discount, I believe it comes out to $1924. You're right-- there's still room for another machine between that and the top-end iMac but I think the gap price-wise is less than some realize.

The fact that the 64-bit logo is next to the iMac makes me think Core 2 Duo.

I'm hoping for Conroe, despite iGary's insistence that it won't happen. A 2.16 GHz Conroe is $70 cheaper than the current 1.83 GHz Yonah and the 2 GHz Merom, saving Apple quite a bit of money. The thermal requirements fit the iMac G5's design, and the only hurdle would be the power requirements- Apple would probably need to slightly upgrade the power supply. It's still be a net gain profit-wise. And the performance difference is significant.

Ok, good questions and thoughts. Let me explain/expound upon my statement. The bolded part below seems to be what is drawing the most reaction.

without an accurate understanding of who God is and our relationship to him these good works become nothing but acts of vanity and self glorification that serve only to advance pride and promote self-reliance.

I am not speaking about conscious motivation within an individuals actions/behavior, although that could be true as we all know people do at times act out of selfish and prideful intentions. You are not necessarily talking about motivation which is either conscious or unconscious. The objection to this idea of man - and other species, too - being altruistic without a licence from El is highly objectionable itself. Is it that you do not want to allow independent action? Where then is free will? Where are other faiths? Does the giving of alms by Muslims count for nothing, too?

it seems that there is no longer an option for the "matte" screen, only the glossy one.

also, and this is a guess, the new airport cards are the same as the pre-n ones found in recent MBPs and iMacs.

only 25% faster. well, I pass it. coreduo is still faster. it's still useful or my work. but I will get new MBP when mac os x Leopard will come with mac next year. :D

Just goes to show that what Apple says about how much faster stuff is a load of bull. How come the MBP is 39% faster and the MB only 25%. Theyre the same chips at the same speeds arent they?

What im trying to say is the MB should be 39% faster than the previous one right?

I also think that whoever has the remaining rights to this material realise that its shelf-life is almost up. In 5-10 years time, the broad appeal of much of this material may have less relevance to the average consumer and its perceived market-value may be far less.

That's not a comment on the merits of The Beatles' music; just my view based on many of the comments I read by what I am assuming are younger music listeners.

I'm 43, many of these songs are ingrained into my memory from childhood, but the only Beatles albums I would possibly be interested in are maybe 2-4 remastered CDs; I'm not interested in downloads at all. But to be honest, I don't feel that by not currently owning them that my music collection is lacking at all.

    I disagree.

There will be Beatles songs that are removed from the public conciousness in the way you describe, but there will be others that live on. Likewise, the image of the Beatles is long-lasting. I think the time will come that Apple (Corps) will not be able to think up new ways of presenting the music, or people will tire of new ways of hearing the music. In that respect, the revenue stream might dry up.

But the image of the Beatles as the greatest pop/rock band, the music and social innovators, is enduring.

2)localized social awareness: discover what music people around you are listening to/what sites they're surfing on, etc (opt-in), would be a nice leap in the social network area (where Apple is a bit stagnating)

I can't see many people opting into that, at least the latter part.

Just wondering, does the aluminum material prevent them from manufacturing white models? I prefer white over all the available colours, and it'll prolly go better with my MacBook.

I was wondering the same thing. A white aluminium one with a white clickwheel would look good, I think. The silver's almost there, but if it was just all white that would be great. It's going to be strange to have a white iBook, white leads, white mouse, and then an all-black iPod.

A rough and ready Photoshop job of a white one:

    57362

I think it would look very smart indeed.

if you only use it for phone calls and text then it's no problem but if you play a game or surf the web then it may get problematic to achieve a battery life that long

Not at all. I surf, call, text and game - not 3D games but Angry Birds (naturally). 24 hours easily, 36 on lighter days.

What helps is the off-peak synching - you can set it to stay online during certain times and not others, so between 12am and 6am it only checks for email every 2 hours, the data connection shuts off otherwise. That helps save a chunk of battery power.

I'm not sure about novels but I would love to be able to read articles from Time, Wired, New Yorker et cetera on my iPod. In the past I've copied them from the web and transferred them into a 'note' file for viewing on my iPod. However I'd love to be able to download them from iTunes like a podcast. 99 cents wouldn't be un-reasonable if it's a well written article and it's advertisement free.

I am professional editor. I get paid to edit. I just dont edit giant films. I think there is a little discrediting going on for what makes a professional editor.......A good editor is a good editor, it is an art. Just because someone is an "expert" on AVID, PP, FCP doesnt mean they are an good editor. Same as someone who knows how to put paint on canvas isnt necessarily Van Gogh.
I think this version will help us tell stories easier and more efficient. It is still up to the editor what he/she will do with the tool.

    Amen!

The amount of crap in this thread is amazing:

    1) Flash could never be a normal 'App' because it has to operate as a plugin for Safari since it's not a stand alone product on its own. For this reason, it would at the very least HAVE to be co-developed by Apple and included in a software update.

Quite amazing is also the amount of misinformation.

Apparently you have not heard of AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime). It is an instance of the Flash player that has more functionality and runs outside of the browser.

    http://www.adobe.com/products/air/

Of course if you mean in the context of the iPhone only, then the above does not apply.

The salesman probably won't let you get out of the store without Applecare, a case, and a screen protector for fear of being fired. And while you are there, how is your cellphone treating you? They also have generic batteries 4 packs/$10.

Sorry, its a terrible place to shop and knowing how constrained their inventory with the "hot" phones, they probably won't have any in stock.

    Hum this is brilliant marketing.
The subscription price serves as an anchor price that makes you feel the regular price is cheaper, hence more buying are expected at regular price.

I just downloaded the update, it told me something failed and I need to restore my iPhone. I am on try 3 and it is still failing every time it tries to restore. It's giving me error code 1013. I would stay away from this update for at least a day or two until others give feedback. It doesn't seem to be that critical of an update anyways.

As stated below, You just need to fix the host file. It gave me the same error earlier too
It's not bricked. You've been using TinyUmbrella, so it didn't allow the baseband to get updated. Fix your hosts file and it will be fine.

Easy way to sort it, just put a hash in front of any lines that have gs.apple in and then try again!

There are a lot of haters on this site. And I mean a LOT.

Plus there are a few people who have zero connection with reality. The type of people who ignore COGS, have no understanding of the economics of consumer electronics manufacturing and marketing, and disregard the basic laws of Newtonian physics. Basically, people who live in an effing dreamworld based on an totally domestic American worldview largely based on sci-fi movies and pop culture, with no real world experience as a contributor to a global economy.

It sounds like you are describing a large percentage of Apple users.
